HALLECK BAR PARTY

APRIL 2017 Known as the best cocktail party in Elko for the past 40+ years, members and friends with a glass of Beefeater gin, drink a toast to the acquisition of the antique bar and back bar from a saloon in the once wild and woolly nearby town of Halleck.  With an abundance of good company, good food, and of course, good gin, it is the best way to celebrate local history and culture. The public is invited to join in celebrating a part of our local history.  The date for the next Halleck Bar Party is April 14, 2017 (6:00 – 9:00 pm), with the theme “City of Elko Centenial” (1917–2017). Come in costume as a character from the colorful past century of community history and win a prize for the best dressed. Live entertainment and a silent auction to boot!
CHILDREN’S OLD FASHIONED 4TH OF JULY SATURDAY JULY 2, 2016, 9:00 – 10:30 am Join us again this Independence Day as we get back to our roots and celebrate, the old fashioned way, with a children’s parade, games, and ice cold lemonade.
GREAT HUMBOLDT DUCK RACE DATES SUBJECT TO CHANGE One of the museum’s biggest fund-raisers, the Great Humboldt Duck Race, has become one of Elko’s unique family events.  Every year thousands of little rubber duckies are adopted by supporters of the museum and then dumped into the Humboldt River, where they race to the finish line.  The quickest duck wins its adopter $1,500 cash and all the pride and prestige that come with sweet victory.  Meet our mascot Delko Duck at the Elko Chamber of Commerce Home and Business Expo (May 7-8), the Cinco de Mayo Parade (May 7), and the Lamoille Country Fair (June 26).  With each duck adoption, receive a wooden nickel good for 10% off on one item in the Museum Store.
BIG 50 FILM FESTIVAL Children can bring their own cardboard boxes (from Second Saturday in July) to the city park behind the museum for a drive-in movie experience. For the Big 50 Film Festival, see what was showing in Elko theaters fifty years ago. Families are encouraged to also bring lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks, then sit back and relax while enjoying vintage movies projected onto the back of the museum building. Free admission (donations welcome). Shows start at dusk. Featured films this year are from 1966: July 16 The Ugly Dachshund (Dean Jones and Suzanne Pleshette)/July 23 The Trouble with Angels (Hayley Mills and Rosalind Russell)/July 30 The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (Don Knotts and Joan Staley).
